| About: | In the midst of all the SoMa multimedia companies, loft spaces and clubs, is this little oasis of calm. This tiny restaurant is best known for its food and ambience. Squeeze into a tiny table and enjoy the late afternoon sun and the buzz of conversation. Any item on the menu is good. Try the roast duck or the fresh salmon. The chef prepares all of the food to classic French standardscreamy, rich and delicious. A dinner here is the best way to escape to Paris, short of getting on a plane. |

I've eaten here so many times over the years, because the food is always excellent and consistent. The name is South Park Cafe though. He makes the boudin noir by hand, which i've never seen done anywhere else, and i've spent a lot of time in France and way too much time in restaurants. Every once in a while he has this incredible saffron mussel soup, if it's on the menu have it. I could eat the steak frite daily, but try to have other dishes too. You cannot get rabbit served like this anymore in SF, delish. What else? Basically he makes everything by hand, including the profiteroles, which is my main reason for always returning. start with a lillet. try the pig salad, excellent. basically the whole menu is. though i'm not a fan of the vegetable cous cous, which he knows, but there are vegans out there, so he keeps it coming.
i love it!
oh yeah, perfect date restaurant...
The food is good. My son and I had dinner at South Park Cafa for his birthday. Unfortunately, the owner did not value my son and me as customers. On the sidewalk at the resturant's table, individuals were smoking. The only thing between us and them was a window that was not solid and smoke filtered in. We were eating dinner! I requested that the owner adhere to the San Francisco smoking ordinance. His reply was that he would "move us". Secondhand smoke and even good food taste foul.
my "new favorite restaurant": I've been on a quest in SF for a while now looking for what I would refer to as my "new, favorite restaurant." A term I personally bequeath for a chill, neighborhood restaurant that tastes oh so yum in my tum without breaking the bank -- so something to go back to often and not have to save only for special occasions.
You can daily get a prix fixe menu for only $32 or go a la carte -- i love the grilled hanger steak (medium rare) in red wine sauce. perfectly done and who can resist the frites? and for dessert a lovely warm chocolate cake to boot. You'll also find a simple but reasonably priced wine list.
I can finally say I found my new "new, favorite restaurant"
