| About: | After a 1991 facelift costing $170 million, this downtown landmark reopened to enthusiastic accolades from a sophisticated audience. This is a grand old hotel in the classic tradition, from the marble entrance foyer to the opulent central court where you can sip high tea to the strains of a harp. It is interesting to note that this is the hotel in which Enrico Caruso was staying during the 1906 earthquake. The breathtaking Garden Court serves a Sunday brunch that is perfect for unforgettable occasions. |

I stayed here with my husband and our dog on a weekend, just to get away from the norm. I think it was around $500 a night, and the sheets weren't even Egyptian cotton. Boring and old fashioned! This place very badly needs a makeover.
Oh, and the buffet was a bit of a bomb too. Uninspired and the sushi was nowhere near fresh.
we have stayed in several hotels in the city and we by far say the palace is a fun and exciting place to stay, take the free historic tour. enjoy the spa and we love the fact that they have a luggage room, so who cares if you have to wait to check in, you can drop off your heavy things and get going on enjoying the city. the staff just does not get any kinder and will go out of their way to help anyone. we had a blast at the hotel and we will never stay anywhere but the palace.
This Hotel was horrible!
I booked a suite for the LLS Man & Woman of the Year Awards event on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Check in was at 3:00pm but they made me wait until 4:15pm before letting me up to my room because they weren't done cleaning it.
I called room service to send up 3 extra ice buckets. After 30 minutes, I called again for those ice buckets. After waiting another hour, they only sent up 2 buckets, not 3 like I requested.
The dinner event ended a 10:30pm and I had a small get together with other LLS guests in my suite. At midnight, a hotel security guard with a heavy Russian accent banged on the door. He told me that no private parties were allowed and all non-register guest had to leave immediately. His attitude was so rude... like he was acting like he was the KGB or something.
I was shocked and angry!!!
My guest didn't want any problems for me, so they all left.
I highly recommend anyone and everyone to consider another hotel when staying in San Francisco. Either the Hilton or the Nikko is way better that this place.
