Pleasantly surprised... a gem: My boyfriend and I were invited by a friend to Poleng Lounge on Saturday night (heard that the place was recently reopened and wanted to try it out). We barely made it there before the kitchen closed as it turned into a club around 10 pm. We weren't expecting much, as we originally thought it was more of a bar, but I must say, having eaten at some of the renown and pricey places around the city, that the food here was pretty amazing. We ordered three of the appetizer plates:

Salt and Pepper Calamari - The calamari was perfect, not over-cooked and rubbery, and the batter was adequately salty, crispy, and not oily. The dipping sauce was excellent!

Burma Samosa - The curry flavor of the samosas was balanced well with the tamarind chutney that accompanied it... YUMMY.

Beef Tenderloin Salpicao with Marrow - At first, we weren't sure about the marrow since we never tried it before, but it ended up being a delicious combination with the toasted breadsticks. As my boyfriend put it, it was like butter... so good. The beef was perfectly cooked as tenderloin should be, and the mango salsa was incredibly fresh.

I thought the dishes were well prepared and presented. My boyfriend and I will definitely go back and try some of the other menu items, which all looked very appetizing and creative.

The atmosphere of the place itself was on the artsy side, but felt simple and not pretentious, which I think added to its charm.

The crowd was mostly in the high-20s to 30s range, and the back area got fairly crowded in the hour after 10pm. There was live music later on in the night, which we caught some of but didn't stay for very long. It looked like everyone was enjoying themselves though, and if we had been a little less tired, we would have stayed longer and enjoyed the scene.

Overall, a really good experience... highly recommended.

Good noshing place for tea-oholics: I will write only about the dining experience, as it's all I've managed to try. Food portions were perfect for sharing among dishes. The food itself was interesting and delicious. My favorite was the tea menu, which was fairly extensive, and can provide for every preference. The dining area was a little small, but it's okay as it doesn't seem to get too crowded. The crowd itself was mainly 20s-30s locals, all generally easy on the eyes. ;) The music could have been turned down a bit, though, to enable table conversation. I recommend Polengs as a good nosh place.
