Worse service I have ever encountered. I will never go back. The food was ok (not sure what the hype is all about) but the food was greasy. What is up with the brain dead bimbo at the front desk?
It's been a while since I had sampled "American" Vietnamese food and The Slanted Door proved to be one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. Great service, Great prices, Great atmosphere and Great Food!
I cannot understand the hype this place gets, outside of the great location. I have eaten here 3 times (business and special occasions, arranged by others) and today's lunch totally convinced me of how lackluster it is. Again the food was incredibly oily, greasy and without any particular flavor. Vietnamese food is known for its delicate, fragrant flavor, and non-oily cooking techniques. But Slanted door is more like trying to be high end Chinese, but bad oily food at that. A squash-like dumpling appetizer was swimming in grease, and the cellophane noodles were leaded with oil, as were the rice cakes and mass of spinach with garlic. We are vegetarians interested in the lighter side, but got heavy doses of grease, fat and pretty much nothing else. The only enjoyable dish was the fresh veggie rolls, although the servers pushed the fried ones on us, and we had to insist on the non-fried ones. there are way better Vietnamese in the City-- in Little Saigon area or some neighborhoods. Mai's on Clement is great, nice, flavorful cooking, delicate and delish!

Think he meant 5 *? Seems like he loved it???
He used the word "great" four times but only gave one star rating.... reminds me of my former boss!
