6th Ave Aquarium is a unique store. They have a great selection and even better prices. Yet they do have their complaints, which are not as bad as people make it sound.

You will not find better prices on their livestock, equipment & supplies and coral. They have the biggest selection especially for a store this size. They have all sorts of fish from the rare to the common goldfish. 6th Ave also has a great coral selection. They are pre-price regardless of how rare it is. You can come in to find an extremely rare piece but unlike other stores, they will still sell it at regular price (about $17 for the common to $50 for the rare). $50 for a $120 rare piece found online is a great deal! I have gotten my bargains at 6th Avenue.

The bad...they do have a large inventory, which can be bad. This includes the fish and equipment. People complain about sick fish and there are a few but that is due to their quantity of fish. You will never see another store with this type of volume. The volume is why they have great prices. Other stores will have one fish for weeks in the store (because no ones buys it $$$), so the fish can acclimate to the store. At 6th, its almost like wholesale, fish come in from suppliers and are sold right away (example will be the Sunday sale). The fish don't have time to acclimate so they may look sick.

Do yourself a favor, If you are unsure of the health, just bring the fish to the counter and ask for them to examine it. But remember, its self serve at this store, so if you buy a sick fish...its because you picked it yourself. I get more frustrated when I purchase a sick fish that a store work has chosen for me.

If you want service, just wait till they have time to help. If they do, they are great. I go there enough to know who to ask for help. The Hispanic guy on Saturday has excellent service!

    The Good:
    - Cheap
    - Good selection of fish and corals
    - Sunday sale

    The Bad:
    - Rude, unhelpful employees (especially the owner with black rimmed glasses)
    - Questionable quality of fish (some live, some die)

Not a good place for beginners but ok for the experienced. I still go but with a "buyer beware" mentality.

great pricing: they do whole sale pricing to the public and many of the fishes are straight out of the shipping bag so they are still in shock. it is alittle over crowded in the tank but there is great selection and the service could be better but i think they are really helpful.

come on people. shopping here is like shopping at costco. you can't beat the price but you compromise the service. this store attracts the cheap so if you don't mind paying double for an item then go to the other stores. you really can't beat the price.

if you do plan to get livestock just make sure it is eating and healthy before you get it and as with all store you should keep it in an hospital tank. before putting in display.

stock is limited but always something new. great selection on coral if you come at the right times. sunday lots are great just got to keep checking back.
