Company Information: This little place lends an undeniable taste of the French countryside to a bustling Mission District intersection. Though sweet items (cakes, pies, buns, cookies and pastry) may be Tartine's "bread and butter," the decidedly savory heartiest-and-most-Bechamel-drenched open-faced croque monsieurs you will ever have the pleasure of devouring keeps neighborhood folk lining up for more. And speaking of bread, if you arrive early enough, you just might score yourself a loaf of the divine rustic country bread served (and constantly raved about) at sister bistro Bar Tartine . Can't shake that sweet tooth? Opt for one of their beloved Morning Buns (marbled with cinnamon and orange) or the decadent Bread Pudding. Whatever you order, enjoy it at the big communal table gazing through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the energy of the 18th Street corridor.

I love their "Morning Buns" but if you are the type of person like me who hates to wait in long lines especially on the weekend, then this isn't the place for you. Life is too short to spend half of your Saturday morning standing in line.
I don't have patience for eating here on the weekends. Not when I know I can have a smoother, more relaxed brunch somewhere else. That being said, when I'm buying a cake for a special occasion, there is nowhere else I think of than Tartine Bakery. There's a cake that's like strawberry shortcake, only much, much better. I recommend a slice of that next time you're there. Pastries are terrific there, but so unnecessarily large. Makes them more of an American bakery than French one.
The morning buns will change your life - they are the most delicious things in the universe. Long lines on the weekends and in the mornings, though, makes it a little bit of a drag to go there.
