| About: | In the heart of the Mission District, where Valencia dead ends into Mission Street, lies a hidden gem. While the Taqueria Can-Cun outpost across the way has garnered more accolades, El Patio is an exceedingly pleasant place for a home-cooked meal. Unlike its burrito-centric neighbors, this establishment offers full sit-down service, and heaping plates of Salvadoran and Mexican specialties. Sun streams in through the windows and skylights, providing ample reason to sit around drinking imported beer (such as Suprema or Regia), enjoying the sights and sounds of the bustling intersection out front and perhaps chowing down on a few plates of pupusas or a hot lengua entree. |

I've been to this place several times already, and I must say that I enjoy it. While the main dishes are offer more than enough, I usually order 2 pupusas of beans and pork : ) The prices are very affordable. This place also has a great selection of beer, especially Mexican and Salvadoran ones that you may have not tried. They sell wine, too. A glass of wine may be $.50 cheaper than most places, but per the bottle it is a great value compared to other places! They usually have Chilean wines. The layout of the restaurant is very cool too. You can't really see the inside from the street, so when you walk in you realize it is sort of a "hidden gem." The first time I went to this place I was amazed at how many times I have passed this place without even noticing it.
The place is very laid back and is a great place to relax and eat at a place more calming than other restaurants. I recommend.
El Patio Restaurant has a variety of delicious authentic Salvadoran plates. My favorite is their Atol de Elote, and their pupusas. They even have chicken pupusas and veggie ones! I agree with the other reviews that it is a very pleasant place to eat without spending much money. The wine selection is pretty good and economical. You can have a romantic date, drink good wine, without spending much, at El Patio Restaurant.
Great Salvadorean food for a great price: If you are a fan of Platanos Fritos, or would like a great empanada, then El Patio is the place to go. My fave dish is the Platanos Frito, Queso Frito & Cazamiento. That's Fried bananas, fried cheese and mixed rice with beans. For less than $10, you will definately leave with a good taste in your mouth. The ambiance is nice. There is a jukebox with a nice selection of Latin Musica and the decor is quaint and welcoming. Try the empanada's too...I promise you will not be dissappointed.,
