| About: | There are two things you should know about this Lower Haight favethe food is spicy and the honey wine is strong. The menu is limited, but it has something for both veggie and meat lovers. The best bet is to order a combination platter. It comes on top of some injera , an enormous squishy pancake used to mop up sauce. It will be smothered with helpings of stewed meats, vegetables or both. Gathered around this luscious feast with friends and loved ones, you (and your stomach) will be happy as can be. |

this place used to be a hidden gem, sorta, but the food nontheless is great! i suggest the vegetarian platter for 2, or 3 if you're good eaters, and definately the lamb, if you want some meat to mix it all up! great smells great people great price! the only thing is why do ppl feel they have to bring their kids? to show their "cool open" parents? get a sitter pls....the place used 2b kick back in a NONneighborhoodyuppie hipsterhittin 'the haight' sorta way, those were great times....catch'em early as possible so you dont have to wait in line[i know!] becuz i am positve this place will soon sell out to all the Irish locals and suddenly start serving pints or bangers or sumsh*t like that;
PLS AXUM STAY TRUE TO ETHIOPIAN CUISINE! dont let ppl bully ya or tell ya otherwise!
The only problem with Axum is that there's only one location. I miss the Polk Street location. I've always found the food delicious. I'll agree the help isn't always the best, but it's what you would expect with the quick service style of the restaurant.
Definitely worth a try!
Horrible Service and Cheats!: My friends and I just visited Axum Cafe this past weekend. The service was horrible. The women was condescending when we weren't completely clear on how to order the vegetarian platter. She rolled her eyes at us! Plus she didn't check on us during the meal, didn't fill our water glasses and was stingy with the napkins. To top it all off, they overcharged us when they ran our credit card. We decided to leave just a 10% tip because of the poor service, and she adjusted it to 20%! What a cheat! Good thing we checked later. Lastly, the injera was SOUR! It altered the taste of the dishes. Thumbs waaaaay down!

Why bring kids? Kids need more than Barney and Mcd's. That is why we bring them. Oh yeah, I forgot, because they are part of the FAMILY, not a pet you leave at home.
Pets are part of the family, too.
