About:The vintage noodle-making machine at the front door is not used anymore, but the ramen noodles that bring in crowds of locals and tourists are deliciously old-fashioned in their authenticity and hearty goodness. They are served in a rich broth in huge bowls and topped with chicken, beef, barbecued pork, seafood or veggies by a bustling wait staff that is friendly and quick. Try the Vegetable Tempura, which is made with fresh seasonal vegetables or the seafood, both cooked until perfectly done and then quickly deep-fried in the houses light, slightly sweet batter.

If I could give zero or negative stars, that's would I would rate Sapporo-Ya. This place has a horribly rude and greedy wait staff and a terribly shameless, dishonest and mean-spirited owner. I arrived with five other friends, all hungry and ready for lunch coming from the Cherry Blossom Festival. In fact, due to this event, the restaurant was relatively busy. We each ordered ramen of various types. My five other friends received their bowls at the same time. Mine did not come out and despite the fact that there were three waitresses roaming the small-sized room they never informed me of any delay in my order. After 10 minutes, I had to flag down one of the wait staff about my order who went back and came out with it immediately. I ordered tempura ramen, but I was disappointed that the shrimp tempura had been soaked through by the soup stock and was starting to disintegrate. It was a sign that the tempura had been sitting in the soup for... hey 10 minutes. I flagged down the waitress to politely comment on this. (BTW, my ramen didn't come out looking like the picture taken by T-Bone L, mine came out soppy soggy and had already degenerated off the shrimp, really gross). Maybe they could replace this soggy tempura with something crispy and fresh? She spoke to me in a condescending tone, as if I had never eaten tempura ramen before, barking that if I wanted crispy tempura I should have asked for it on the side; otherwise, that's the way Sapporo-Ya serves its tempura ramen, mushy and soggy. She stormed off. That's their explanation; that's the way they serve it? Luke warm broth and soggy tempura... After being talked to that way and because the soup was luke warm and the tempura had fallen off my shrimp and formed into a bland paste in the bowl, I didn't enjoy it. On top of that, every time the waitress passed our table she glared in my direction. I guess customer hospitality and service just goes out the door at Sapporo-Ya, eh? Anyways, the bill comes and apparently the waitress was afraid that she wasn't going to get a tip and she tries to slip in an $11.00 "S/C" charge and hope we wouldn't notice it. But we did. When we inquired as to what "S/C" was, the waiter we flagged down said he didn't know what it was. He asked another waitress who came back about 10 minutes later and stated it was a service charge for parties five or more, duh... didn't we see the sign posted out front? There is no sign posted out front stating this. We stated that we refused to pay for bad service to which the lady replied that since she wasn't our waitress (who was mysteriously absent) she couldn't do anything about it. We asked to speak with the manager. This lady said there was no manager because she was the owner. First she's not our waitress and can't do anything about a bogus service charge and then the next thing she's the owner. What the hell kind of game does she think she's playing? We're paying customers for crying out loud! Is it to much to ask for hot fresh food and honest service? I asked her if as the owner of Sapporo-Ya if she would be proud to serve soggy tempura ramen that had been left out for ten minutes to a customer. She emphatically said "yes" and that I was just being "picky". Are you kidding me? You're the owner and you're telling an unhappy customer he's picky because he wants his food fresh, hot and prepared properly? Since it's a small restaurant space, this conversation drew some attention from other customers and sensing this she removed the bogus service charge in a huff after barking at us. I suspect that the owner of Sapporo-Ya must really feel a great deal of contempt for her customers to treat them in that manner.

I came here for the Okonomiyaki after reading reviews online and while it was okay, I have had better. I am sure their ramen is probably better, as that is their specialty.

I know my ramen and the ramen at this place is really sub-standard! Don't know what all the praise it about.
