It is cozy, with a motley assortment of wooden tables, dining room chairs and sofas upholstered in velor. There are nooks perfect to spend a lazy afternoon, flanked by a tense philosophy student from the neighboring University of San Francisco on your left and a sweet middle-aged hippie on your right. The service is as casual and friendly as the atmosphere. The food includes sandwiches, soups, pastas and sweets; which is hearty and cheap. The coffee is always fresh here and there are Poetry Readings on Wednesday nights.
Sacred Grounds has an open mic poetry venue on Wednesday nights. It is the longest running open mic on the west coast having been in the same space, place and time for over 30 years. Sign up starts at 7pm and the reading ends at about 945 pm. The food is good, the poetry engaging and the atmosphere friendly. There is also a new open mic and writers workshop which happens on Saturday afternoons and the Thursday night "music open mic" has just started up again. Check out this scene!
This place also hosts the oldest running poetry open mic in town and for good reason. There is a lot of great talent and they welcome new readers. The place offers great coffee, desserts, sandwiches, salads , etc. I had a salad with orange slices and almonds plus a slice of very decadent pumpkin pie, yum! When we return next year we will definitively stop by again.
