Great dining experience: El Mansour is a Morrocan restaurant in the Richmond district of SF. The inside of the restaurant is decorated very nicely and makes you feel like you are actually in a foreign country. All of the tables are set to the sides with the center reserved for foot traffic and the belly dancing.
The menu lets you pick between their entrees (couscous, chicken or lamb) or their specialties. We had the prawns and scallops (very good) and the chicken and lamb specialty. Soup, salad, dessert and mint tea comes with the dinner.
Dinner is served with out any utensils (except a fork for the dessert). It took me a little bit before I got comfortable eating with my hands but it was all part of the experience.
I'm really glad we tried this restaurant and I highly recommend it.
It was really fun dining experience. How many times do you get to sit around like sultans and eat fine food with your bare hands? :-) Per my wife who has been to Morocco, food was very authentic and fancy. Very delicious. Belly dancing was bit weird at first, but was fun when everyone got into it. I'd love to go back with a bigger group.
Good Food, Great Service, Fantastic Time!: We first entered and the decor was lovely. We were seated promptly, with the service just as orderly. We ordered our food and it came in a timely fashion. The soup and salad was amazing. The appetizer was delicious and everything arrived perfectly warm and appealing. The food itself was great--very juicy and flavorful. After all the bread and other food before the main course, I was a little full.
It's pretty pricey--about $30 per person--but the food and the entertainment made it worth it. I had a great time and enjoyed the hand-washing and the pleasant smell of the mint tea. It was sweetened just right. Overall, the experience was fantastic. We all had fun and enjoyed the mood in the atmosphere.
