The facade of this excellent eatery seems a bit stark compared to the Edwardian splendor of some of its neighbors, but the food is anything but. Traditional Japanese food is the order of business here and it is rendered with flair (making even such classics as teriyaki spiced with extra ginger, sing). You will also find bento boxes filled with toothsome morsels of seafood, chicken or beef along with tart pickled vegetables and aromatic rice. Kites float serenely over the quietly efficient wait staff that never misses beat serving the locals and tourists who flock here.
what's all the hype?: I was at Sushi on North Beach this weekend (10/21/06) and was totally disapointed. Based on the reviews I've read I was expecting a wonderful experience and was nothing but let down. I was an avid Kabuto fan until it was sold and have been looking for a replacement since. I've tried many of the highly rated places in the city and most have been a let down. Sushi on North Beach is the worst so far. The albacore looked old and tasted old. The Maguro was nothing special and the hamachi was ok. The highlight was the california roll with real crab. I won't be going back. It looks like I'll need to make the drive to Shasta to try the new place that Sachio opened up there just to get the same quality I'm used to.
Best sushi in North Beach!: One of my top five places to eat sushi in San francisco. Sushi is awesome here and you can't beat the service. Staff makes sure you are attended to quickly.
Sushi is very good and the fish is always fresh. If you are very hungry I recommend going with sashimi dinner or chicken teriaki dinner. On a side note this is a really good place to take a date
