Felt like an exotic retreat. Ambiance was outstanding. Drinks were very good, especially the drinks for four. Service was great but......the food tasted like you were on a cruise ship. (The steak was an exception). We had the Peppercorn Ahi and 9oz Steak. The Caesar Salad had a fishy taste. The Spinach Oyster soup tasted unique but not good. Very expensive, I would have rather gone elsewhere.
We loved the atmosphere, drinks, and dessert. Service was good as well. What will prevent us from ever going back is the entrees. Both were below average. What I ordered was a Thai Noodle dish w/ crispy tofu. Tofu and noodles are 2 of my favorite foods and Thai is my favorite cuisine so I didn't think it possible to go wrong. I got my dish and there was tons of it so I was super excited and I dove in w/ a huge fork full and thought I was going to vomit! All it was was plain super thin vermicelli type noddles covered in something like Chinese 5 spice powder. I could feel the granules crunching between my teeth. No sauce or anything to flavor. It's like they cooked them and meant to add some sort of sauce or flavoring and all they had was 5 spice and just doused that dish w/ it! I tried another bite and had to spit it out. I am by no means a food snob and am pretty easy going when it comes to food. I like a ton of stuff and only 2 other times in my life so I recall not being able to eat a dish I ordered. considering I go out to eat at least twice a week for the past decade+ I'd say I have some standing here w/ my comments. My girl ordered a Scezuanne gulf prawn dish which while ok she said she'd never pay more than $6 for at any Chinese take out place and he dish cost $24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We expected an insane amount of prawns for that in an incredible sauce. Tasted like corn starchy soy sauce at best and the portion was the same or less then you'd get any any Asian restaurant. When our bill came and it was $87 we were just ready to cry. I couldn't even eat mine & hers wasn't worth even half of what we were about to pay. I know I should had said something about my dish, but I just didn't. Instead I will never got back. They had nothing entree wise to offer me anyhow if they were say to replace it w/ something else or give me a gift certificate as I am a vegetarian and the only other dish was a tofu stir fry & I have that all the time at home & judging from the flavors of our 2 dishes I can guarantee mine is a hell of a lot better! Insane prices and so below average food! Very sad.
Having eaten hundreds of times at the now closed Trader Vic in Washington D C., San Francisco and New York, I was excited to find that they were not all gone. Where as, there was no Pressed Duck, and the rack of lamb was not that melt in your mouth like butter that it always was, to sit smelling Gardinias in my Scorpion and munching on a Pu Pu Platter brought back such great times I can only say...Take a friend, relax and enjoy a good meal and a fun time.
