I've come here for lunch several times. It's not cheap, but the service is top notch and the food is excellent. I think on one occasion, there was a guy singing and playing the piano.
Some of the sandwiches I've tried are the pastrami and the club. They come with some pretty good cole slaw or potato salad (I think the hot ones come with fries). It's great food, but I'm not sure if it deserves the ten-dollar price tag. I guess you're paying for the location (Stanford mall = super ritzy). It does feel like a very nice, upscale restaurant, so it's great for a date.
A Bit Disappointed: On my last two visits, I must say the food quality has gone from above average to just average. Service was just average and although the serving size is large, I do think they have shrunk their portion sizes. Max's has become just an average place, nothing special.
Chicken soup is out of this world: When I'm sick, I get a bowl of the chicken soup (you can get it with or without the matzo balls) to take home, and it is sooooo good.
