Set along the main drag on Lincoln Street, Hydro beckons as a place that would be low key and serve a tasty meal. As you walk in, you get your own menu and are instructed to "Seat Yourself". Once sat, you sit...and wait...and wait...until one of the wait staff takes notice and comes to check on you. It doesn't appear that anyone has an assigned station, so you could be a while. Once we were acknowledged, they came with waters and asked what else we might want to drink. They do have a full bar, with many high end liquors, so I'm sure they make a mean drink...but it being early afternoon we opted for a beer and a glass of wine. There is a good variety of beers, wines by the glass...not so plentiful...
Now, you might think that a restaurant with a name like Hydro would have good water...but they don't...it tastes of dirt.
My dining partner ordered the Mac n Cheese, which you can have plain ($8.95) or add bacon, prosciutto, or ham for a $1.00 more. He ordered it with prosciutto. The Mac n Cheese was very good, creamy, soul satisfying...why they put the prosciutto on as whole pieces and not cut up...I don't know, it made it difficult to eat.
I had the Smoked Chicken Salad ($9.95). A salad of Greens, House Smoked Chicken, Feta Cheese, Apples and Toasted Walnuts, lightly dressed in a Citrus Dressing. Well, there were greens, there was shredded chicken (couldn't really find the smoked flavor); ummmm, yes, the few pieces of apples tasted of apples, not acidic water which is good, and I did finally hunt down a couple pieces of feta cheese. But it was tough going there for a while finding that cheese! All in all, it was a fairly bland experience.
LindySez - it wasn't bad, it wasn't great...but it was filling. Just don't drink the water!
Excellent food and drinks. Enjoyed our time there.
However a RED FLAG for one particular bartender. Paid by charge and left a cash tip. However, when checking the bank's charge itemization, he ADDED a tip to the charge.
Called Hydro and resolved immediately and will handle the bartender who is, by the way, a new bartender there.
Impressed. All good.
Yummy appetizers and great drinks!: Hydros is all I remembered it to be and more. Great atmosphere with high ceilings, plenty of room for tables and booths and the bar in center front. The service is great, and prices are affordable. My ONLY complaint at our last visit is that the bruschetta portion was pretty small. The garlic fries, on the other hand, were to die for! Excellent! Want to relax, chat with your friends and just have a good time (and forget about the pretentiousnous of the wineries?), this is the place to go!
