I ordered Crab Cakes as Starter and dessert Crème Brûlee were very good; however, the main entree Seabass was not good at all.
We have found a new favorite! My husband and I tried Papillon for the first time just a few days ago - for Valentines dinner. Year after year, we have been sorely disappointed in other restaurants for Valentines. They're usually understaffed, overbooked, and offer a limited "Special Valentines Menu" at horribly high prices. Not here! Our reservation was at 6:00 and I was concerned about getting out of there by 7:45. We had tickets to a local theater production, and needed 15 minutes to get there on time.
We arrived right at 6:00. We were warmly greeted, and escorted to our table right away. Walking through the restaurant, I did notice some of the dated appearance that some of the other reviewers had mentioned. Nothing off-putting though, and everything was in good repair and very clean. Within minutes our waiter came to the table, told us about some of their specials for Valentines Day, but assured us that we could order anything from the regular menu as well. Both of us ordered Filet Mignon - in a wine reduction, with gorgenzola and roasted garlic. The waiter quickly returned with delicious warm french bread and butter. We each had a glass of wine. The meal came with soup or salad. The house salad was really delicious with apples, candied walnuts and bleu cheese. I also ordered a cup of soup. My DH selected the french onion soup.....to die for! Everything was so delicious...huge portions (I had my leftovers for lunch the next day). Our total bill (including a 20% tip) was $100. Well worth it - and one of the best meals I have had in years. We'll be going back again, and soon! I just wish I had left room for dessert!
The food was excellent. Whomever their cook is, they really know the definition of medium when it comes to cooking filet mignon. Service was excellent. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our 6pm reservation and were seated at 6pm. The owner spoke to us before, during and after our dinner, and even took us for a short tour of the restaurant and gave some of it's history. Our server was named Paul and he was a true professional. Dinner for two, one appetizer, and two non-alcoholic drinks comes to about $100 if you order on the high end of the menu and probably about $80 on the low end. You've got to check them out. I never knew there was a gourmet restaurant in Fremont.

Oh...I forgot to mention - we were out of there by 7:30...and arrived at our play with time to spare!
