Was in the mood for a little Mex and this seemed to be the better option then the local Jack in the Box for tacos. They seemed in efficient, long wait, attitudes from everyone as it seems to infect the customers when they enter and order. Took my food to go, which was delicious if pricey, but frankly I won't return as I can do without the hostile and negative hit after my own long day at work. still in search of good local Mex :-(

Try El Sol in Rodeo. Not very far from Mazatlan. Family owned and very good food, good prices. elsolrodeo.com

I agree with the last review. I absolutely love the food, however once in a while it is skimpy or not as fresh as it could be. It is mine and my husband favorite restaurant, the food really is fantastic. The cashier however, as mentioned in other reviews is treacherous. I too do not wish to order when she is there. She is very unfriendly and uninviting. The food I order is best fresh so I like to eat in. There are at least 2 girls, neither friendly, and one guy cashier so you have a slight chance of getting service that is not hostile.

MAZATLAN TAQUERIA & GRILL, 884 Willow Ave, A-11, Hercules
    (510) 799-3391

    Howdy Baseball Fans,
I agree with most all the points taken by the last reviewer. The Review was quite fair and honest.
I started out in The Big Valley 1950s-1980s and am thus spoiled by autentica ethnic cuisines of all sorts, Mom & Pops being my compass or most revered. I'm 5yrs new to Hercules.
As a Silicon Valley refugee, I lust for Super Taqueria whom sets the bar for fast, fresh, and always friendly to my pocket and me. 1981-1994, I lived in Morgan Hill where the owners/cooks in our oldtown SUPER TAQUERIA happily greeted you, fed you and then entertained you singing harmonies and choreographed Rancheros, corridos, conjunta and romantica along with the jukebox. My Euro-CaliMexTex kid and I giddilly delighted in their passionate exhibitions. They loved us too, their biggest fans.
I lassoed my husband, not the fondest of Mexican, to this fairly new Hercules outlet a few months back. Initially, I was quite relieved when I first tasted the Supra Quesadilla con Carne Asada. However, just as quick, I decidedly did not care for my initial reception. I was pleased to see option of real silverware. But get with the times folks, get rid of the earth-hostile styrofoam. We have a ban in-force now? Paper plates, boxes, and bags are still fine!
I always ask for extra salsa, too. (My favorite daily, reigning fruit queen is the humble tomato. Incidentally, I am vested Teamsters Local Canneries, 13 years. The greatest FT college student and head-of-household summer-pack gig a young gal could ever wish for. In the winter, I worked 15-20hrs in a private athletic club, food & beverage service, plus 15-20hrs as an AV Tech at my community college. Both also great 'school girl' gigs.)
So it goes, MAZATLAN is still the closet I've found to a trad presentation
(ne Super Taqueria) in my own neighborhood.
Yes, the food is absolutely quite good.
    Yes, its a bit pricey.
Yes, it's often crowded and conversations can run quite loud due to lack of sound-absorbing treatments.
Except for the fairly regular self-absorbed, aloof, boisterous and mostly imposing, ill-behaved youth, I truly enjoy the little ones and mid-30s something plus who are mostly polite, fun, open and friendly neighbors.
HOWEVER, the slim, 18-24ish female cashier is a real pill. She's quite clear in communicating to all she's miserable, hates her job and/or her life, and is quite generally ignorant and/or aloof of requisite basic principals and practices of customer service skills. She needs to get a life or religion. The proprietors are at-fault here. You always put your best on the front-line. If we dine-in, I cringe if she's on duty and have my husband order to avoid contact with 'Miss Sunshine.' I'd rather not send husband for take-out.
So it goes, I don't visit as often as I would like. Other than the food, I never know what to expect. Still longing, melancholy for the 'good 'ole days, fact remains: the food is consistently good. Perhaps the only genuine positive feature going for this outlet. The proprietors need to go back to school, plus invest in a serious Mktg consultation.
