Gone Downhill...
Angele has always been a favorite of mine; food was consistently excellent, and service was terrificâ¦that is, until Executive Chef Aaron Meneghelli came on board. The food is mediocre at best, and portions seem smaller and lack both taste and presentation. When the change is staff initially took place, I gave myself a few visits to allow the new chef to get up to speed but it never seemed to happen, and after four disappointing visits I have given up. There are many wonderful places to dine in Napa, and Angele, unfortunately, is no longer one of them.
Aaron and Andrew have hit their groove - the food is heaven! Service has gotten much better - even eating at the bar is wondeful.
This eavening I had the House Pate then some roast lamb, finished with bread pudding. They even have some cult classics by the glass - I had a Renteria Pinot.
We were very disappointed with our experience with the wait staff, the food and the wine at Angele's Restaurant. One of us ordered a salad and for $12 got a few sliced apples, a few lettuce leafs and a walnut half. Another ordered a burger and fries and the fries were cold and solid like little sticks of wood. Two others in the party ordered chicken pot pies and the crusts were like card board. We had to practically beg to get a waiter to bring anything to the table such as bread, and they acted like they were doing us a favor. The house wine is sold in a HALF carafe for a whopping $36! The bottom of the carafe was loaded with sediment and they told us that was perfectly wonderful. All in all, go elsewhere. There are many other wonderful choices in Napa. This restaurant is overpriced and the food is mediocre. We left feeling very displeased.
