Rick's shop is THE place for car work in the Bay Area. I wanted to share a few anecdotes about my experience with PR Motorsports in the last ten years or so I've been doing business with them:
A) A few years back, my girlfriend's Miata developed some sort of clutch/transmission issue. We took it to a mechanic and they diagnosed it as needing a replacement transmission -- about a $1600 job. I went to Rick and said "look, another shop said I need a $1600 transmission job. If you think that's what I need, I'll give you the $1600 right now to do the work." They looked at the car for about 10 minutes and came back to me with "well, it looks like the slave cylinder's in need of replacement. It's about a $150 job, but if you want to give us $1600 for it, we won't argue." :)
B) Stupidly, I let the car flood (left the roof down; massive storm) and sit for about six months. I came back to PRM and told them "I don't know what's going on with the car. Check it out, you're authorized to do up to $500 of repairs on it, if you need more money, give me a call." They called me two hours later. "We checked everything out. Your O2 sensor was a little loose. $50";
C) When I got married, my wife was concerned that the car (it's 19 years old at this point) wasn't going to last and wasn't particularly safe. I had her call Rick and they had a LONG phone conversation. Whatever he said, she left that conversation loving the car and loving PR Motorsports. My WIFE loves my mechanic;
D) My clutch has been sticking and hard to push in lately; I dropped into PRM today and asked them to take a quick look and tell me how bad of a problem I may be having. Hector sat in the car, adjusted the floor mat, and said "OK, go ahead and give it a test drive." OK, I feel stupid. I came in and asked "how much do I owe you?" and they laughed at me. "What, for 60 seconds of looking at your car?"
Rick's saved me thousands of dollars on repair work; everything PRM has done on my car has been done to the highest possible level of quality; they've done all my maintenance and all my optional, custom work (rollbar, engine upgrade, etc). I trust PRM. Completely. Don't go anywhere else.
