| About: | Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani have been capturing the hearts and appetites of Northern California diners for nearly 20 years. In 1988, the husband and wife team opened Terra, a world-class dining destination in Napa Valley. Today the intimate restaurant still showcases Chef Sone's seasonal menus that blend local ingredients and the flavors of southern France and northern Italy. The dishes reflect Hiro's refined Japanese sensibility, as well as the couple's travels, tastes, and passion for exceptional dining. Shortly after winning the James Beard Award for Best Chef in California in 2003, Lissa and Hiro opened Ame in San Francisco to great critical acclaim. In 2008 Terra received a James Beard Foundation award for Outstanding Service. User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAmazing service and food. The waiters were more then knowledgeable about the food and helpful with making recommendations. Constantly attended to and enjoyed every sip of perfectly paired wine. Would definitely recommend and plan on returning back this year!
User Rating: 3 out of 5 starsThe service was great and despite the stuffy atmosphere we had a good time. However I was pretty unimpressed by the actual food, especially for the prices. We had the special appetizer and beef carpaccio both of which were unremarkable. The only thing that got rave reviews out of 6 dishes was the duck 3 ways. I would deifnitely recommend martini house over terra though.

Terra: An excellent small restaurant in St. Helena. The menu is small, but can be somewhat overwhelming at first glance. However the service was extremely hospitable, and the dishes were explained well. I would definately not call it a value pick, but the food is excellent and worth the price. Terra's signature menu item is the broiled sake-marinated sea bass with shrimp dumplings, and I can't complain.
