Food is great i like ordering the Mu-yang and Pad-thai..prices went up during the past two years. Overall food is good, I hate that they have the worst customer service...so if you go here dont expect to have them ask you if you food is good, or if you need anything. You kind of just have to ALWAYS call them over and yes even to give you water. They seem to be there when you order and when to give you the check.
It seems like all the non "fast food" restaurants in Vallejo suffer from the same thing... either great food, bad service... or bad food and great service... Cha Am is no different.
The food selection at Cha Am is great and always very tasty. The quiality of their dishes is very consistant, and I always enjoy the flavors they have to offer. Their teas and Thia ice teas are great, and their desserts are worth saving room for. Over all, some of the best Thia food I have even tasted.
Now forthe bad, everything else. The service is horrible. You usually get seated right away, and the wait staff is quick at getting your food ordered, but after that it is alln down hill. The meals you order seem to come in random order... meaning that sometimes a few people at their table will get there meals 15 minutes after everyone else does... and the appitizers rarely get to the table atthe beginning of the meal (we always seem to get our appetizers served to us when the rest of the dinner gets there.) Once you have your food and initial drinks, the staff completely ignores you. There have been several times where I had to physically get up and hunt down a waiter or bus boy just to ask for a drink refill. Also, requesting for condiments like salt and pepper is a plain hassle. It took me 10 minutes to request some salt and pepper as the waitress seemed to not know what I was talking about, even when I did the hand motions of a salt shaker. The last time I went, I ended up bringing my own small packets for salt and pepper to avoid the hassle.
There was another time when me and my fiance went to Cha-am for dinner, the the potatoes in his curry was raw. We had to hunt down a waiter to ask them to return the dish for one that had fully cooked potatos in it. They took the dish but never gave us another one. Near the end of our meal we asked them about it and they told us they cancelled the dish even though we specifically told them we wanted it but one that was fully cooked. They said they would get the dish for us again, but we requested to have it to go since it was so late already. They gave us a new dish (with cooked potatoes) but it was not to go, so we had to go through all the hassle of asking another waiter for to go boxes for the dish.
Food's great... service is very bad. If only Vallejo had more non fast food restaraunts to offer...
The food is fair, but the service is usually bad (-1). It takes a while to get a servers attention. The place is well kept at least. Lots of light, thanks to the windows. (+1) So I rate it a 3/5. But barely, since this is the only reasonable Thai place in town.
