| About: | The Montclair Bistro is tucked into the wooded hillside in the affluent area of the Oakland Hills. Built in 1948, the style of the building is French Provincial with much attention paid to detail-from the weather vane atop the peaked roof, the half-timbering, to the weathered bricks along the walls and pathways. Inside, discreet artwork on speckled walls in tones of soft leaf green and butterscotch, unobtrusive dark carpeting, comfortable chairs upholstered in a soft, dark fabric, and white linen-and-butcher-paper-covered tables create an intimate, homelike setting. Montclair Bistro brings upscale California cuisine and a casually elegant decor and service to the table. The wine list features over 150 varieties and regionals, displayed in a climate controlled wine room. User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsok, so this is a white table clothe, candle on the table deluxe full bar where everything is perfect. And entry's are very reasonable... they even offer discounted small portions for the ladies or the dieters or the not-me's. We went last Saturday, the first hot day of spring and there were too many open tables for this gem. The chef comes out into the dinning room after the dinner run to ask how you liked things.... and he really cares. YOU CAN EVEN PARK CLOSE BY! and it is two minutes from HWY 24 off of HWY 13. Try the Lamb... have a beet salad... do the wild mushroom bisque... and where else can you get duck at this price
User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsI had dinner on a Saturday night in 9/07, Early in the meal the server spilt ice water on the table and in my lap. While the server was apologetic, the resturant staff made no effort to make up for the incident. The people at my table over heard a discussion in the service area about the incident but not once did the waiter, manager or other staff make mention of the wet tablecloth or my wet pants. The food was alright but my meal was ruined. I will not return there again.
