This famous Bay Area staple has been around forever, or at least as long as I can remember. It's sort of the unofficial anchor of Jack London Square restaurants, having been there for so long.
That being said, that's pretty much all it has going for it. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place for group functions, company parties, the power lunch, etc. but in my opinion you'd be better off going next door to Kincaid's - better service, better food, better prices.
The food is good, but not great. They pride themselves on offering fresh and delicious seafood, but I had their seafood salad once and it was just plain awful - everything tasted fishy and looked like it had just come out of a can or defrosted in the micro. Since then I've stayed away from their salads. Their main courses are generally very good, but again simply not great - sorry, Kincaid's is better.
Also, the past couple of years their service has really seemed to go downhill. The staff, at best, just seem to lack enthusiasm, and at times it's taken forever to get food or the bills get mixed up.
Last, but certainly not least, the pricing is not in line with their service or food. They are very expensive and when I pay those prices both the food and the service better be pretty darn good. If their prices were lower I'd give them a better review.
I was impressed with the restaurant's elegant decor. Even though we were late 10 minutes for our reservation, we were seated at a very nice window overlooking the water on a busy Saturday night. Our server was informed, helpful and made us laugh. I had the herb crusted Halibut, my partner the Ahi, and my dad the Salmon. All of our dishes were cooked to perfection. Being somewhat of a dessert snob, the only thing that peaked my interest on the dessert menu was the cheesecake with cherry port sauce. What a delight this turned out to be. The cheesecake was firm and smooth. The cherries in the port sauce were mondo (big) cherries and had an effervescent quality when bitten into. A wonderful perfect way to end the meal. Highly recommended.
great setting, good seafood--I love their cioppino. Will definitely be back for seafood at Scott's.
