Very disappointed--seafood is NOT fresh!: My wife and I stopped in here recently to sample the highly regarded seafood and came away VERY disappointed with our meal, which was not cheap. We ordered the signature dish, Mariscada Tijuana Guisado de Mariscos, a huge shared platter with a variety of seafood in a mild garlic sauce. We had several serious issues with this dish:
First off, the squid was WAY overcooked, it was very dry and rubbery, but actually was the best tasting thing on the platter;
The fish and King crab were clearly not fresh, but from frozen-- fish was mushy, not flakey and had zero taste, crab had a strong, funky taste;
The mussels and clams were also somewhat funky tasting, none of the delicate flavor and texture characteristic of fresh shellfish, but were not terrible;
Finally,and most alarmingly, several of the massive prawns were clearly days past their prime--they had that tell-tale odor and taste of ammonia (like smelly feet), a crystal clear indication of prawns gone wrong, prawns were NOT fresh and they were NOT good, they served us spoiled seafood!
Tijuana has a long-standing reputation for good Mexican-style seafood, but our experience with this place was very negative, we will not return and cannot recommend this restaurant, service also left much to be desired (Looking for stellar Mexican seafood? Try the Sinaloa Mariscos Taco Truck at 22nd and East 14th, simply sublime!)
