Having purchased the book and prepared recipes from it, I was excited to visit the restaurant with my wife. The prices were what I would expect for a restaurant with this reputation, and the service was very good. HOWEVER...we were very disappointed that the hostess did not tell us that the air conditioning was broken before we were seated "due to renovation." It was more than 80 degrees inside, which makes it difficult to enjoy food tailor-made for cooler temperatures. They also neglected to tell me that the men's room was broken (also due to renovation) and that I had to USE A PORTA POTTY OUTSIDE. Overall, I tend to agree that the food is "spotty". The quiche was great, but the greens were over-salted. The desert was okay and so was the bakery, but I've had better elsewhere. Bottom line: I won't be back.
I was excited to try this place out and I went with my roommate. Overall I was unimpressed. The service was good for the most part but the food was spotty. I had a salad that had spoiled walnut oil on it. Have you ever tried spoiled walnut oil? It tastes something like spoiled fish. Another thing is that while in the Bouchon cookbook it tells you how to make the best fries, they use frozen fries there. Unimpressive for sure. It wasn't top notch as you would think and it isn't bottom of the bottom but there are defintely better places to spend your money.
Beautiful atmosphere, beautiful presentation, small perpotions, could there be any less lamb on an open faced sand?? Service attentive but not great, especially for auto gratuity. I would like to decide what they deserve. Be careful if dinning with a group and someone suggests splitting the bill. We made selections off the Hor-d'oruvres and salad menu, (it was just lunch!)and our wine selection was half the price of others in our group. My husband and I had a total bill for about $70.00 and payed 1/4th of the bill which was $150.00. It was a special occasion and a treat to go there but honestly not what it is hyped up to be and for the price I would rather have something for my money rather than poop it out!!
