I took an injured hummingbird I'd found on Ohlone bike trail to them one day. I was happy that over the phone they'd said they would place it in the care of a person who specialized in helping birds and specifically hummingbirds. When I got there, however, the staff was very rude and cold. I thought that maybe they thought I had hurt the bird, which was not the case. I don't know if that's what they were thinking, but they were very unfriendly, so I was left to try to figure out why. They had also said I could be contacted when the bird was to be released back into the wild. I checked back several times and each time they stated that he was still being cared for. I reiterated that I would like to be informed at the time of the release. Then, maybe the 4th time I called, I was told that he had been released and no one had contacted me. Anyway, I do not doubt that they know what they are doing when it comes to animal care, but my experience with them, as a human, was not positive.
This vet is fabulous. They took in our badly injured dog, performed surgery on overtime and took care to get her to the car for me. The follow up appts were easy. They had never seen us before this incident. I highly recommend it. The staff is warm, intelligent and caring. I will never go anywhere else.
Montclair Vet Hospital has been in Oakland for almost 50 years.
The vets there do a tremendous amount of community service for pets and wildlife in need. The team won The Best of East Bay in 2007 in the reader's poll of the East Bay Express.
The vets and the nurses really care about their pets and the pets in the community. The team is very educated. Montclair vets offer services that include home visits and that is very useful for families with several cats. Cats generally do not like to go in the car and they do not like change of scenery. Bring the vet to your house and there is less trauma in a routine visit.
They also board cats. You have a vet and their professional staff watching over your cat while you are away ... this is a valuable service especially if your pet takes medication. I would rather use the vet's office than ask a neighbor and risk having a problem.
If your pet needs acupuncture ask for Dr. Gary Richter. Acupuncture is helpful for many health problems like arthritis, pain management and cancer.
Keep your pet healthy and you will have more time with their love.
