Cafe de la Paz will be receiving free publicity. Negative, but free nonetheless.
1. I made reservations on the phone on 12/27 for New Year's eve at $250 using my credit card.
2. I cancelled the next day when I realized my wife had made other plans.
3. My card was charged anyway because the cancellation policy on the web site states that the refund comes in the form of store credit. However, I was never told about this policy when I made my reservations by phone. So my money is being held hostage ($250) and I am condemned to eat at Cafe De La Paz until this amount is expired.
4. To date, I have still not received ANY correspondance from La Paz. No e-mail confirming my reservations; no return phone calls; no explanation about the "store credit" system (expiration date, etc.); or any other communication.
5. I had to go through the hassle of canceling my card and having to deal in cash on New Year's eve and for 7 to 10 days thereafter until my account is updated.
This e-mail will be posted on sites that provide restaurant reviews, on craigslist, and the word will be spread via any means possible until I receive (a) a full refund and (b) an apology from the owner Russell who refuses to return my calls.
A claim has been filed against La Paz and specifically Russell, both with my bank and my attorney.
La Paz be with you all except with those in the service industry who provide lousy service, or those who do not notify customers that they are hijacking their money for their profit.
They have pretty good paella and fried plantains. I've eaten here twice. I'd go back.
This place is GREAT: Good food, nice ambiance. Some of the dishes are stronger than others...i.e, the blackened sea cakes are amazing. The platanos are wonderful, an eclectic mix of latin foods. Leave room for their chocolate mousse dessert. I recommend trying this place at least once....you will go back.

What? Wow, they are keeping that 250? That's crazy. I can totally understand charging a small fee (20 bucks) for canceling, but the whole 250? Wow. Sorry to hear that you had to cancel your card. Good luck with your case!
