It was fantastic! The lobster tails are the best. If you are in Berzerkeley for any reason at all you have to go to Kirala. The sushi is top notch as is the other food they have. They also have a good selection of sake, wine, and other alcohol. The only drawback is that it's not a secret, everyone loves it so you might have a long wait.
Kirala came highly recommended to us from Berkeley undergrads. We came expecting a long line (as had been warned to us and as we had seen in driving by), but the Saturday night we tried them out, we showed up at 7pm and were seated by 7:15.
The food was overrated. I felt as though the appearance of the sushi had that "fake sushi" look, and the taste was fairly average. The service was somewhat slow as well - not so much waiting for the food but even asking for more water or tea took 2-3 tries before they finally remembered. All in all, not a terrible place but definitely overhyped.
The Best: Akira Komine has been serving the best sushi in the East Bay since the days next door at Shinobu. Kirala is packed from opening to closing 7 days a week; bring an appetite and something to read during your very worthwhile wait.
