| About: | Once a small and funky co-op store where you could find locally grown and organic produce, this store moved into a former Safeway building and expanded its offerings to appeal to everyone from the granola to the yuppie. You will still find bushels of fresh and organic produce, a wine selection to rival most specialty wine shops, and a complete bakery, butcher and fish market. It specializes in organic items, but there are many national and conventional brands as well. Bulk buying for grains and nuts and pasta is second to none, and the cheese section is first-rate. |

User Rating: 4 out of 5 starsYou wont find a better selection than this institution. Berkeley Bowl had been a model for grocers around the United States and manages to really do things right.
Go here for produce and meats.-- I have never seen the variety matched. My only gripe would be quality, which is not great, but not bad either. (thats what you get when stores are committed to buying local)-

great market, especially the fresh fish and meat counters, but full of rude, selfish, self-righteous berkeleyites...nothing worse than a selfish, bitter "progressive", and berkeley bowl is chock full of 'em...I love this market, but rarely will I go out of my way to shop here as so many of the other shoppers are stunningly inconsiderate and rude, especially the parents who think that somehow having little kids gives you a free pass to be a complete jackass, makes for quite an unpleasant shopping experience. Farmer Joe's in the Dimond is much more civilized, a breath of fresh air after the insanity that is Berkeley Bowl...I think I'll stay in Oakland..

I absolutely love Berkeley Bowl! I shop there almost every day - personnel is fantastic (charming, helpful, great personalities, all that good stuff) -
food is fresh, parking can be a "mutha", but, it's cool - keep up the good work BB!!!!!
