Over the years, the institution has distinguished itself as one of the country's premier arts and design colleges. The Oakland Campus was established in 1922 and has since grown to include several art galleries and stellar facilities like the Treadwell Ceramic Arts Center, the Martinez Hall for painting and printmaking and the Meyer Library. Although the college has since expanded to include a second campus in San Francisco, the Oakland Campus continues to house several of the college's fine art programs and the first year program.
