| About: | Known throughout Berkeley as well as around the Bay as one of the premier Thai spots in the area, Cha Am continues to garner Best Of The Bay awards and charm guests with its lovely enclosed patio and even lovelier food. Perhaps it is the "Authentic Thai Herbs" touted on the menu, but everything tastes piquant and delicious, and is not unreasonably priced. Try the traditional Tom Ka Guy soup followed by Golden Triangles. The Rice Plates and Prawns in Chili are good hits. For vegetarians, they offer many noodle and tofu dishes. |

User Rating: 2 out of 5 starswarm and friendly service but everything I tried here was swimming in oil and sugar, way too sweet--tone down the sugar, guys! and maybe bring in more fish sauce and chilies, your food will be much more authentic tasting.

I will never understand why this place has remained so popular over the years, very average Thai food at best. Went again recently after many years hiatus and was disappointed, will not return. Dara Thai/Lao right next door is miles ahead in terms of authenticity and taste, my suggestion is to give Dara a try next time you are looking at the long line to get into Cha-Am, don't waste your time or $$...-

overrated--OK thai food, but far from spectacular and certainly not deserving of "best in the East Bay" hyperbole. Average American Thai fare, nothing special.
