The name's a bit misleading. Not only is there no ocean view, but this is not your ordinary diner. Though it has streamlined aluminum and black-and-white tile, and the fare is inspired by diner cuisine, the ingredients are the freshest available and the dishes are prepared with care and imagination. At breakfast, the cooks do wonderful things with the humble buttermilk pancake, and the scrambled eggs and tortilla chips are memorable, as well. At lunch, it is sandwiches and plate specials, which often feature a fresh fish filet. The to-go counter next door, offers sandwiches and mini-pizzas.
30 min wait and not worth a second. The tables were small and the chairs and booth were uncomfortable. The place is not air conditioned; so it reaked of cooking oil and grease. Finally, we had a party of seven and they can accomodate only four per table; so we were unable to sit together.
I had poached egg over home made corned beef hash (the Maryland Eggs). But the hash was more potato than beef. My wife had an omelet that was dry and stiff like a "board." And the waitress had trouble keeping our orders straight...she got the muffin orders all wrong.
The menu is extensive with some tantalizing sounding dishes, like a fluffy pancake. But I am suspect about their quality assurance after the hash and omelet my wife and I got. Parking was plentiful in the parking lot behind the buildings across from Bette's.
I would not recommend Bette's if you are in a hurry or you have a party of more than four.
