This is a nice get a way... sure, it's an older resort -- which all are in that area -- however, the rooms are very clean, spacious, comfortable, and there's real wood for your fireplace always in the room ready for use. The pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and workout facilities are nice and spacious as well. The grounds are well kept with mature trees, flowers, etc. Every room we've stayed in (aprox 6 over the past year) has a view of the water since the resort is built onto a hillside. The property backs up to farmland, so if you hike around you'll see sheep, cattle, etc. Go down hill to the office, bar, and restaurant and enjoy their services, or further down the hill and cross the street to the nicer waterfront bar/rest. and sit literally over the water and enjoy the views. There are plenty of historic pictures and information about the area, of course including Alfred Hitchcocks' movie "the birds", etc. It's a neat area, and nice place to stay. If you're expectations are of relaxing in a clean, comfortable, historic older town on the coast away from traffic, then you won't be dissappointed at all! The only thing I wish they would offer is dog friendly rooms so that my "kids" could join in on the relaxation.
All I have to say is YIKES!! Yucky old bathrooms, springy beds, bad views of the bay, lacking free breakfast, expensive, thin walls, no remote for the TV, bad TV reception, and the TOPPER - I found a beetle crawling on me as I lay in bed. SCARY!!! I'm sure I didn't bring it from home - we don't have bugs like that where I live. I think this place is about a one or two star hotel charging 4 star rates. If you want to sleep good, without bugs, go to the HYATT in Sacramento. It's worth it just for the beds and the deluxe accomadations. If you're going to Bodega Bay just for the outdoor experience, then maybe you'd like this place. Better bring some bug spray and a mattress topper though!!
