I give Ghiringhelli's Pizzeria five stars. They have very good pizza. Our family knows the owner. The owner's family owns the restaurant on Bolinas Rd. I grew up in Fairfax,Ca. I haven't lived any where else. Fairfax is my home town since 1950. So I know the town very well. I have seen things change in town. So I don't buy any other pizza than Ghiringhelli's pizza. The owner Mike knows me.
Well, the 'Za I had last week at Ghiringhelis was really, really good. First off, the place looks different. They've toned down that irritating red and green paint job, and changed where they make the pizzas. Like they opened it up somehow. I dunno, but it looks cleaner too. Oh and they are putting in a wine bar. Anyway, I had a special with pancetta and crispy rosemary and sweet-sour onions or maybe they were shallots. Anyway the crust was really thin and crispy. And super-reasonable price, considering the quality of the ingredients... I also had a great glass of wine. I paid only 6 bucks for it...yum.They have lots of zinfandels, and stuff I haven't heard of. Anyway I will totally go back. Soon.
Sad truth is, there's no good pizza in this part of Marin. Ghiringelli's, Ricardos, Lococo's, Pinky's, Amici's, RedBoy, Mauro's... they're all just a half step above RoundTable. You'd think for all the competition one would be a stand out, but after 9 years living here, we still keep cycling through the regulars hoping one of these places will wake up and get a new recipe. Best pizza in the Bay Area??? That's a joke! Ghiringelli's is decidedly average. My vote's with Oasis in Menlo Park.
