| About: | The Marche aux Fleurs is the farmer's market in the south of France. We have taken this name for our restaurant because we base our cuisine on the seasons and the best the local farmer's markets have to offer. Our produce is locally farmed at the peak of ripeness, our seafood is wild and sustainable, and our meats are range-fed and antibiotic free. These ingredients comprise the selections on our menu, and the flavors are clean and expressive. |

We drove all the way from Palo Alto to try this restaurant because we saw a superb review on Check Please. I ordered steak, which I will only do in a fine restaurant. What a disappointment! It was cooked with a lot of anchovy and that made it taste extremely fishy. I have only sent back a very few dishes in my life, but this was one of them. Another person at our table did the same. They somewhat reluctantly remade the dish but it was still mediocre. My wife's fish was salty and smelled fishy.
On the plus side: My nettle soup was excellent, the wines are very reasonable, the setting is really nice, the waitress was nice, and the little town is charming and worth a visit.
I will be back for all these reasons, but with lowered expectations. I consider this place average for what it is trying to be: a high-end French restaurant.
We entered a nearly deserted 50 seat restaurant with cute decor, nice classical music playing. Empty is usually a bad omen, but this is sleepy little Ross & Wednesday is not wealthy mommy & daddy date night. Menu is French Bistro style with fresh Cali food galore. Seasonal menu uses the farmer's market items. Bambie had warm goat cheese on butter lettuce with lardons that were a bit too chewy. She followed with the halibut with tiny pasta "peas" in a briny tomato light sauce. Real Good! I had Bruschetta with fresh lima beans. YUM! Then Milanese breaded pork slab. Moist & good. The side arugula salad was perfect to cut the fried pork. Various glasses of French & CA wines are $7-$9 /glass. Per glass selection is minuscule, just 2 choices per color. Dessert: Hot chocolate cake with sides of warm hazelnuts & home made Vanilla ice cream. Good, not great. Competent, cheerful, friendly service: Well, the place was empty. $107 total bill. I like Berkeley's Bistro Liaison better.
Eat here!: Great provence style food rated very high on Zagat and a warm and efficient staff. We go every year for our anniversary. Always an excellent meal.
