| About: | There are all sorts of fusion cuisines going on these days but none quite like what you will find here at this unassuming little family-run restaurant. The food is Indian. Not a region of India, but a little of every kind of regional cooking from that subcontinent. But the fusion does not end there. The menu includes whatever strikes the fancy of the owners, so next to the Vegetable Samosas you'll find Spinach Ravioli and a specialty of the house, a Punjabi Tostada. It all tastes great, especially with the house-made Chutney and Tamarind Sauce. The chat from the family that cooks and serves is engaging and so are the crowds that include locals, tourists and retirees. |

wonderful food but be ready to pay a steep price for dinner meals when the guy takes you outside the printed menu.. main dishes hit $20+ very quickly
This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. I discovered it in 1999 while working as a consultant nearby. Now I never miss an opportunity to stop by. The food is inventive, skillfully prepared and exceptionally tasty. This is the kind of food you dream about. I especially love the curried lamb enchiladas. Who ever heard of such a thing? Never mind, they are delicious! They also prepare seafood in ways you have probably never tasted elsewhere. If you like Indian food, you will love Avatar's.
Mom's cooking - Bay Area's hidden gem.: The perfect jazz fusion when applied to food is Avatar's. An Indian base, French presentation, Mexican influences, fresh and authentic ingredients served in a a very friendly ambiance. The best Indian food (though you will be hard pressed to find Indian dishes on the menu) outside of the kitchens back home. My friend still swears the Bass is exactly how his Mom makes it at home in Mumbai. Dont miss the most authentic mango shake you will find in the US and the delightful dessert. The mouth waters with every bite of the tostada and enchilada encoutering for a blend of exciting flavors. The eggplant is cooked to perfection , the chutneys fresh, the rotis are hot off the stove. Indian restaurant food is remarkably un-healthy and this is where Avatar's differs. Recommendations from the local cardiologists and the first bite tell you this is the best tasting healthy food you will ever eat.
