I'm here in the area caring for my sick mother. Less than a year ago I went to this pharmacy in San Anselmo with prescriptions that were classified as narcotics. They are written for me by the head of the pain clinic at SFGH, so are very important. Previously, Jack (the pharmacist) filled these for me without a problem. Yesterday I went in with one prescription and I've never heard so many excuses in my life about why he could not fill them. I'm not taking them because I want to, they are absolutely neccesary, so I don't understand why he should judge me when the person that wrote them knows my history. I doubt seriously that things have changed so much in less than a year for him not to be able to fill this prescription! And, now my only option is to drive to Clearlake (two and a half hours one way) and drive back. All of this without the pain medication that I seriously need. And, just to have it filled. If my pharmacy can fill this, there should be no problem for Long's. After all, aren't the rules the same for all. I'm so angry that I should be treated in this manner just because I'm sick and need strong pain medications. Why would somebody make a sick person have to jump through hoops to get medications that are neccesary? I know they are aware of who I am. And, I hope that they read this. Aren't they there to help the people who need help? Or, are they there to decide who deserves it? I'm sure my physician has much more knowledge about what I need, so why should Jack decide whether or not I should get these medications. Needless to say I'm fuming that he would make me drive all that way home and back (rememeber I'm also caring for my aged and ill mother).
I'm ashamed of you Jack, and ashamed that you consider yourself more knowledgable that the head of a prominent clinic. Also, ashamed that you would make up conditions to suit you and not the sick person standing before you. Who made you judge and jury?
Jack is not the judge and jury, but he is a Pharmacist, which in the strictest sense of the word, makes him a Doctor. That being said, he has a license to protect. If he sees a reason not to fill your medication, whether it be that the refill is too soon, the MD did not sign the Rx, the date was off, etc, then it is not only his choice, but his responsibility as a healthcare professional to say no.
I think you are being very overly dramatic. I find it strange that one pharmacy not filling your prescription would make you "drive an hour and a half to have it filled." If there is nothing wrong with/suspicious about your prescription, then there would be no problem with getting it filled a different pharmacy. This is Marin County. You can't throw a rock without hitting 3 pharmacies. I suggest that you stop blaming Jack for not filling your prescription and start blaming your MD for whatever he didn't do that caused Jack to say no. Or maybe even take a little resposibility for yourself? Hmm.... strange idea.
I have been going to this pharmacy to fill my meds that I take for my heart condition for YEARS. Jack has been nothing but nice to me and almost every time I go into the pharmacy there is at least one of these people there harassing the poor "People in the White Coats" who are just trying to do their job. Keep up the good work, CVS!!
Usually have to have a doctor fax the prescription a few times because the pharmacy folks at Longs say they didn't get it. Then I'm told it will take hours, unless I'm there, in the store standing in line. Really annoying place to get medications.
Long lines, never filled called in prescriptions without getting in line then getting a number. Rarely filled dropped off prescriptions without bugging them and being told it is next.
The pharmacists does not do a consultation without the customer asking for it. Which I believe is not legal.
Go anywhere else!
