The Shadowbrook Restaurant is Wonderful Beaiful Senery and the food coudnt be better the Service was great and they treated us like family I will defently be back when i get a chance to get back to Capitola
I have been to this place before and love the atmospher however, we were a little dissapointed on the wait for our food our steaks were excellent but we didnt like the mash potatoes, they didnt have much flavor and seemed to be kinda hard, We will be back!
One of my favorite places! What I love about Shadowbrook is the warm, rich yet unstuffy atmosphere. A great place for everyone. I've gone there in some of my nicest dress clothes for a special occasion, as well shorts and flip flops for "spur of the moments" things, and I am aways treated the same. The service is usually spot on. The prices are very reasonable (especially for what you get). I have been there about 10 times over the last 3 years and my only crtiticsm is the last couple times I went, the food was not as good as it was the first couple of times. I haven't been there in several months and I hope what I experienced were flukes and they got that worked out, and not a pattern that is starting to develop. However, my criticism is minimal, the food was still good, just a matter of slightly over cooked food. I will say this though, if you ever order something that is not to your satisfaction (which, trust me, will be rare) you should definitely speak up. It has been my experience that the professional service is very appologetic and genuinly embarrased and will insist to provide you with the quality you deserve. They really care about their customers. Overall, an enjoyable place with good food and a great atmosphere. If you want a quiet dinning experience I would suggest you make that clear when you make your reservations and try and go during the week.
My wife and I live in Campbell, CA and had business in Fremont, CA on 1/18/2008.
We decided to drive to Carmel and spend time in the area.
On the way home, we stopped by the Shadow Brook Restaurant in Capitola, CA for dinner. We were seated in and out of the way place with another party. My wife was concerned that we would be ignored. I assured her that wouldnât happen and that we had a nice quiet place to talk.
Weâve been to this restaurant many times and were VERY disappointed in the service on this date.
The server arrived shortly and took or drink and food order.
The service went down from there. After a long period of time the server showed up and asked if we had gotten our soup, which we hadnât. The only comments were a sorry from the bus person. I would have at least expected an apologue from the server and a free dessert.
The are other restaurants in the area that we will visit instead.
The bad thing about this visit, was that we stopped by the Rocky Point Restaurant in Carmel, CA for lunch and were given poor service.

that is the only reason you gave it a bad rating because you had to wait..... ive been there many times my distant uncle use to own it, it is a very high class restaurant that is very popular and honestly your rating was based on a bad day, when a restaurant is that popular there is some wait when you dont have reservations especially at dinner service on a friday.

My husband and I recently ate at Shadowbrook and were also very disappointed. The food was way overpriced and of minimal quality. The management was rude and arrogant. We have had much better dining experiences elsewhere, so we have decided to avoid Shadowbrook and other tourist traps like it.
Shadowbrook is a Capitola must. It really does have a special ambiance with its cable car and beautiful gardens. The food is decent, I wouldn't say that it there is anything on the menu that stands out, but the food is comparable to most any other "special occassion" restaurant. The wait staff has always been friendly, although I have encountered a hostess or two with attitude in the not so distant past. I'd say that if you can overlook attitude from a hostess long enough to actually take your seat, its a Capitola experience you might really enjoy.
My wife insists we come here every year for our wedding anniversary. Beautiful gardens and walk to the restaurant (unless you take the cable elevator down...which my wife is scared of). The food is delicious and the service is fabulous. The steak and lobster is absolutely worth it. Expect to spend money, but the experience is worth it.
SHADOWBROOK RESTURANT: A VERY ROMANTIC PLACE TO DINE. CLOSE TO THE BEACH. YOU ENTER BY RIDING DOWN IA HILL IN A ELAVATOR THAT LOOKS LIKE A TROLLY CAR. FOOD IS EXCELLANT
Great brunch and bar!: For those of you who have enjoyed the Shadowbrook in the evening for a romantic dinner ... you need to stop by for brunch on Sunday. The atmosphere is a tad more relaxed ... the views are even more beautiful during the day ... and of course ... the bar is open!
