Contrary to the other review, you don't need a membership just to go down an enjoy a few games of pool and you don't have to agree to tournament play to have a fun afternoon or night. There's a rate per hour based on how many people are playing. You'd have to inquire at the desk about tournament play.
Bob, the owner, is friendly and the waitstaff is sweet and attentive. There is generally mexican music playing because most of the clientele is hispanic, but if there's a lot of non-hispanic customers they will tend to play more Sublime. If you don't like the music, you can take your turn at plunking money into the jukebox - it's pretty equal opportunity that way ;).
The tables are pretty good and the sticks are okay. I bring my own stick, so it's not an issue for me. A woman alone would probably feel insecure due to the fact that some of the male customers tend to watch you, but women in a group or on a date would feel just fine. I'm comfortable going by myself, but I'm familiar with the place and know the other customers to be harmless.
It's a fun time and a nice way to spend a couple of hours, so don't be deterred by the clientele you might see through the window. Nobody bites :D. I've shot many a game of pool there and for awhile was there every week. Just don't park in the parking lot unless you're parked there for pool or for OD's - it's monitored pretty carefully. If you're going to make other stops too, then just park in the public lot on the other side.
If your white you need to find another place.: This owner is crazy. Want a $100 for a membership if you are one of the five he picks. Then he want you to commite to every tournament which is an extra $60 a month. So for 160.00 you can play all you want if you are one of the five chosen. Other than that it's loud mexican music and attitudes.
