The was my first experience at Athena Grill. The portions were generous and the lamb chops and greek fries were tasty. I was not as impressed with the vegetable medley which consisted of green beans (canned?),squash and peas in greek herbs. The dinner salad was good although I was a little surprised to only see one olive. The greek wine was $7.95 per glass and very smooth.
The prices on the web site are not up to date. I paid $15.95 for the lamb chop dinner which is currently shown as $12.95 at www.athenagrill.com. My greatest disappointment however was they did not accept the $25 gift certificate I had purchased from restaurant.com even though it was less than a year old and there is no expiration date in California anyway. The manager didn't come out to explain and left it up to the waiter which to me showed a lack of judgement and courage. For this reason. I don't plan to return even though the food and wine was generally pretty good.
The food is quite good yet the service is just OK. The place is very popular at lunch time. Tables can be very hard to come by, making many of the customers pushy and rude. Know what you want well before you make it to the front of the line to order and do not plan on lingering at your table when you have finished your meal.
This is a very good greek restaurant not just for the meat-eaters. The hummus, the falafel and eggplant options are very tasty.
