Went to this Great Place on Sunday 19th around 5ish. From the outside I had some reservations about it being clean ect. Well, it is spotless and I go into the ladies room first at new places when we dine and then I tell my husband if we are staying or going. Well we stayed. !!! Super clean. !!
We were greated warmly by the host who took our order. I found that nice because I was not familiar with the format and he was very nice and pleasant and I ask plenty of questions.
We were seated quickly, and our salads and bread were on the table when we were seated. Nice ! Bread was great !! I had read someone who reviewed on this site had drippy bread but we did not have that experience it was perfect! Now, I knew I was going to have the Ribs because I love them and make them at home so I am ribcritical ! Also I saw how they make them on the Man versus food segment and I was crazy about how they make them. They were perfect, nice crisp to them and moist and meaty. Waitress was sooo nice and I love the insde what a cool palce reminds me of Northern Wisc. .. Very cool, and I have to say I am pickey about places. I will go back here very often. I like to dine like the elderly (early evening) and I am glad we went when we did cause it was getting clogged up when we left. But they have a great way of placing orders which I found very efficient.
I am really excited to have a place where I know they rock ribs. I need to try the other dishes, but Believe me you will not have Restraurant remorse here...Staff wise they surpassed some of the nicer places we go and I put high emphasis on Service with a Smile. Go here it is very reasonable and just a Super little place... A Gem.!!!!!
meat is kinda dry.....and what's up with the sauce on the side???
I can't quite agree with many of the other reviews. I cajoled a friend of mine into going to the Hi-Life for dinner. I had heard great things about the San Jose Institution. I love quirky places and don't mind paying good money for good food. What I found was an atmosphere that was hot and smokey. The people who worked the restaurant all had permanent harried looks on their faces, which did not include a smile. The chicken was good, the salad uninspired. The very worst, however, was the bread they served with dinner. It was literally dipped in a vat of some oily substance that squirted out of the bread when you bit into it. I was embarrassed, my friend was forgiving. We both love barbeque but neither of us is likely to return to or recommend this place.
