I purchased 13 fruit trees last week. Phil is very knowledgeable and helped to plan in the yard. Thank you very much. -Naoki
You can tell, the plants love it here.
They're almost smiling. Like I was. Maybe it's the land. Maybe it's Phil. He is a kind-hearted and soft-spoken man, who takes his time to be present. But his passion is obvious. As well as the simple, practical knowledge he shares from first-hand experience.
The multi-fruit trees are great. I learned that almond trees accept grafts from any species with hard pits, like apricots, peaches, and plums. There's an old one there supporting 15 varieties of fruits! Other special green beings he carries, or rather nutures as members of his family include:
- Strawberry tree (yes, a tree up to 20-feet high)
- Cherimoya fruit (yum, look it up; "custard apple")
- Chinese jujube (a sweet medicinal red date)
- Berries (blue-, black-, rasp-, boysen-, etc-)
- Passionfruit (tropical delight I)
- Guava (tropical delight II)
- Sweet limes (you can eat the peel)
- Blood oranges (juice like dark wine)
- Avocados (3 different kinds)
- Grape vines (5 different kinds)
Of course there are the more usual edible plants and otherwise, like maples, grasses, and succulents. Phil even had a fully functional organic garden up until last year. Perhaps the 14-hour farm workdays got too much. I half-jokingly offered to resurrect the operation for a cut of the produce. Rising food prices, anyone?
There are bigger nurseries with more selection. There are fewer ones with more heart.
Got couple of trees from there today - Phil is very helpful and is extremely patient when explaining things. We got a graft tree (doughnut peach, plum and nectarine) and a pineapple guava - both of which were fruiting. Wish I had discovered this gem of a nursery a long time ago....
