I've been to Ariake 4 times now, and I recommend it. Its a little neighborhood sushi place with a fun festive atmosphere. They have all manner of animated nicknacks on the ceiling and walls like mirror balls and fog machines that they set off for birthdays and such. Fri-Sat evenings are very crowded so be prepared to wait. Service was excellent except when it was very crowded.
The sushi was very good. I judge all sushi places on the freshness and quality of their hamachi, and Ariake's was not the best I've ever had but it was fresh, had a nice flavor and melted like butter in my mouth. They have a very large selection of specialty maki, and the prices are in line with most other sushi places. If you want a bargain, go to Ariake at lunch and get a bento (around $9). Tons of food including soup and salad. I ordered the bento with the saba (mackerel) shioyaki and pot stickers. The shioyaki was fresh with no fishy smell and was not overcooked.
The rolls are always a mess and falling apart, the chicken is tough and rubbery, and the sushi is wilted.
My favorite place to eat sushi. They got this roll call shark that is yummy. It's pretty much a bigger and yum version of a California roll. I always eat here with my hubby when we go to eat sushi.
