In a word: terrible. We ordered 2 different cocktails, and they made both wrong. While mine was drinkable, my husband asked them to fix his (he even offered the recipe he likes). Instead of accommodating him, they brought back the same drink, insisting it was correct. The server treated us as if he was Godâs gift to the restaurant world and we were just lucky to be there. I started with the lamb sweetbreads, which were well cooked & sauced â the only good dish of the evening â and my husband had the foie gras, which was bland and uninspired. For an entrée, I had the pork tenderloin. It was ok, but I can cook pork better at home. My husband had the short ribs, which were cooked to a beautiful texture but had absolutely no flavor, not even that of meat. Two others at our table had the prix fix, a lamb curry, and neither were impressed. Another ordered the steak and wasnât even sure it was steak when it came out to the table. The wine steward barely said two words to us, and every time he poured wine into a glass he dribbled wine all over the table. Someone took us to IHOP for breakfast that morning, and both the food and the service there were much better â weâd rather go back to IHOP than ever go back to John Ash.
great survice: very good food, good survice, friendly, good for family and for just a night out
A Favorite: John Ash is a gem of a restaurant, with a fantastic wine list, beautiful views of vineyards, and very high quality food. I have had a few sub-par dishes at this establishment (sesame crusted ahi, 1998), but generally the food is exceptional. The steak with garlic mashed potatoes is divine. The oysters at a recent brunch were offered with a smoked chipotle tomato concasse, a standard shallot vinaigrette, and also a lemon sorbet, which was perfect. The restaurant utilizes fresh, local ingredients, and the menu changes frequently. Also, it's open on Christmas and Thanksgiving.
The bar area has blue tiles and a large seating area. Large windows look out onto the vineyards, and the service is very good. 4.1
