you better make a reservation ahead of time. the food is the best german food i had since speckmans closed on church street in san francisco. i trie to compare this to polish/german restaurant krackow in s.f. the sauerbraten was excellent, and so was the sauce. i reccomend mostly everything. even the stein of beer.

Tonight we visited Cafe Europe in Santa Rosa, Ca for my sisters birthday. I would probably give this restaurant a better review if I was just rating the food. All I can think about right now is the HORRIBLE owner!!! His name is Herbert and he is awful and rude. I was refereed to this restaurant by a family member and will NEVER return or refer this place.

I have a 10 month old baby who is very well mannered but still is a baby so she will whine or cry for when she needs something but nothing out of the ordinary. We have been going out to eat at least twice a week since birth and she is very well behaved. Three times she made noises and the owner Shhhh'ed us. I tried just ignoring it and we even got up and walked around for a bit but when we returned to our table and she squeaked again he had the never to "clap" at us. Like she was a bad dog that he had to reprimand. I guess since he didn't get a rise out of us he went even further as to walk by our table and say "She is quite a noise maker". No one was bothered by our daughter but him. We were talking to our neighboring tables and all they had were compliments for my girl.

I am so upset I wish we would have left. Our bill was over $300 for 7 of us and I feel that we were not welcomed or appreciated by the owner. We are there giving him business... not going to let him give us the business! The food was good German food but nothing over the top for the price. I traveled from the bay area (an hour and half away) and am very disapointed. I told the waiter what happened and he apologized and told us this has happened in the past when baby's are present. I believe that you should not advertise family friendly or have highchairs if you do not like kids.

Please do not come to this restaurant!

Hi Folks, Your comments about our Restaurant and me is truly overacted and your whole story is un true. We have many Families with Babies and seen them crowing up over the Years and there became part of our Family. Most Mom's or Dad's go for a walk out side if the Baby seem to have a bad time ajusting to the music, people and place. We are truly sorry you felt this way about us and our operation. Your baby had a very bad night and a lot of our customers complant about the noise level. Sean went out off his way to make you all welcome. Yours very truly Herbert

Good tasting, solidly prepared German food. Made & served by Swiss-German immigrants. Authentic flavors & presentation. It's a storefront in a strip shopping center. The interior is cuted-up with Coo-Coo clocks, German porcelain decorative plates & scenic paintings. Dinner plates, glassware & silverware are good quality. 4 of us ordered different dinners & we all shared tastes. Everything was good. Bambie' 4 lamb chops ($16) were the best of the group. As good or better than any I've had in SF. Dinners include soup or salad, 3 side vegetables, & home made whole wheat dinner rolls. Portions are generous, prices are low. Wine list has interesting & some rare bottles (Sonoma County wines predominate) that are priced no higher than your local wine shop. This will be new favorite place that I'll visit often. Dinner for 4 with a $30 wine with desserts & tip cost $140. A bargain for food this good. Recommended!
