| About: | From the garden to the table, the California Global menu at Mosaic Restaurant & Wine Lounge reflects chef/owner Tai Olesky's native Sonoma County roots and philosophy of serving local, fresh, seasonal ingredients. Using the freshest ingredients from local gardens, farms, and ranches, Chef Olesky depends on an abundant supply of the finest and freshest meat and produce as the raw materials for the nightly menu. Mosaic's sophisticated bohemian vibe and warm rustic interior sets the stage for Olesky's cuisine. A partially open kitchen allows diners to see the action in the main dining room. A second cozy dining space makes for a more intimate experience. The Wine Lounge with its handmade wood accents and leather loveseats looks out onto the private outdoor Backyard. For the ultimate in alfresco dining, the Backyard features an outdoor kitchen serving a more casual rustic menu. A giant Redwood tree is the focal point of the garden, while an outdoor fireplace warms diners. |

Mosaic is one of the best restaurants both for cuisine and ambiance. Tucked away in the quiet town of Forestville it offers the feeling of eating at someone's home with the flair of "the big city" presentation. Wide variety of choices in food and wine. I've eaten there for both lunch and dinner and have never had anything but a 5-star meal. The staff go out of their way to make each experience enjoyable and memorable.
Having lived in the Russian River area several years ago while working in tourism promotion, Mosaic was a lovely way to return for a visit. We ate outdoors, a rowdy group (maybe 20) of mostly gay men, celebrating a 58th birthday of a beloved friend, and the service was as good as if for a small table of four. The outdoor dining is great for a large, somewhat loud group, who wanted to enjoy a truly memorable meal.
The food is amazing. The mix of ingredients is so exciting the specials menu reads like environmental poetry (or a creative witchâs spell). I listened intently, then listened to what was ordered, and decided the logical thing was to order off the specials menu, since the âsignatureâ standard dishes, renowned with several in the group that had sampled them, could wait for another night.
Everyone was blown away with their fare, and some wouldnât share (always a sign), and the wine list was extraordinary. Nothing makes me happier than to see a lot of local wines on the menu, especially those that are organic.
The wait staff was tolerant of our revelry, even playful. The bill was largely taken care of by the birthday-boyâs partner, so I canât comment on price, but in West Sonoma County there are only a few really good places to eat, fewer off-season. So you could spend a good amount on a lackluster meal somewhere else. Better to commit to a sure thing!
Mosaic will quickly rise to the top of that short list of recommended dining venues in the Russian River. I suspect there will be so many favorites drawing return attendance, the term âsignatureâ will grow to be obsolete.
I just finished my 4th meal at Mosaic in 2 months and I swear, my experience gets better every time. Tai, the head chef, came out to our table to see how we liked our meal and I thought that was a very sweet thing to do. He seemed to genuinely care about our experience. In general, the wait staff have been very nice and the food is just terrific.
