Sal's Myrtlewood Lounge, or The 'Wood as the regulars call it, is one of the coolest neighborhood bars I have been in. The drinks are great, strong and very reasonably priced. The crowd is awesome, rednecks, hippies, old folks, youngin's, etc... everyone can hang together at this bar. The jukebox has a wide range of music, and with two pool tables it isn't hard to get in a game. The outside smoking area is large enough to be comfortable, and keep you out of the Humboldt drizzle. I love all the bartenders here, the day ladies (Jen and Tuesday) have been around forever and the night ladies (Alicia and Nicky) are great at keeping the atmosphere fun and lively. I definitely recommend a trip to The 'Wood!
This is your typical neighborhood bar. Basic drinks, average prices, pool tables, dartboards and a smoking section out back. They have holiday BBQs courtesy of Sal (the owner) which are really a nice touch. The bartenders (depending on when you go) are lacking. Tuesday, who normally works week day daytime, makes great drinks and is a no nonsense type of gal with a great attitude and she really knows her customers. Alicia, who normally works evenings and weekends, is a dreadheaded, two faced, horrible bartender that will overcharge you if you don't keep track. The bands they feature on weekends are sometimes really good but you have to take your chances. Better to get in before the cover is charged and you waste your money. The crowd of patrons themselves are an older crowd during the week and before 7 on weekends. After that, the younger crowd comes in and it's your typical meatmarket. Horrible place to take a date, great place to get laid.
