User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe best snow!: Kirkwood some of the best snow in the Sierra area, and rarely has bad snowboarding conditions. They have good number of greens, blue and black runs, and the ski lifts are nice and fast. It's very similar to Squaw in North Lake Tahoe, but not as busy and the staff are a lot more helpful. The food is still pretty expensive, but nothing bring a brown bag won't fix.
The biggest issue is parking and access. From the bay area the road into Kirkwood takes a long time to drive along, and then you have South Lake and bay area traffic all merging together on a 1 lane road. Get there VERY EARLY, or sit in a traffic jam for an hour, and even worse, risk being turned away once the parking lot fills.
