I'm not sure which "Kirkwood Inn and Saloon" the bad reviews are referring to, but the one I go to is right on Hiway 88, near the turnoff for the ski area. I have been very pleased every time I've gone there; sometimes while driving a big rig (what is wrong with Truck Stop service, anyway?) and other times either motorcycling or just out for a drive. I usually get the bacon and swiss burger and a beer, if I'm on my own time. Always friendly service, GREAT food, and ambience that reflects the remote location.
The last time we were in Kirkwood Inn & Saloon we were completely disappointed. The restaurant was dirty and cold. We were waited on by some sloppy woman with no appeal at all. My wife's sandwich was served on a dry, stale roll and my burger and fries were warm at best. This place used to be a fun destination for both food and drink. They must have changed their staff and traded them in for Truck Stop cast offs.
Liked the ambiance of the saloon, but couldn't get of the fact of having to pay 10% sales tax, and 18% added gratuity because of having a six person group. I ordered the roastbeef dip. When it finally arrived, the fries were cold and hard, and the sandwich had maybe 3 slices of beef in it. The Au Jus dip tasted like it came from a carton.
