| About: | Sudwerk is a great place to catch a fast meal and some beer! Copper-colored kettles and huge circular structured seats make up the decor. The ambiance is very unruly, with noise levels touching the top of the decibel chart! The food is all German and you should give the sausages, burgers and sandwiches a try. While you're in the lobby gulping the food down, walk over to the bar for some exquisite Sudwerk beer. All the beer is brewed in accordance with "Reinheitsgebot"the German purity law. It can get boisterous in here, but that's the fun of it all! |

Still good: I've been going to Sudwerk on and off for many years. A recent ownership change brought a revised menu, although many favorites are still included. I returned about 3 months ago after not having been there for over a year and a half. The food was very good before and is still very good, based on about a half dozen recent visits. I've had their tri-tip salad, bar-b-que pork ribs, Cobb salad (both the standard grilled chicken plus a seafood version), the appetizer sampler platter, fried calamari "appetizer" (the portion is humongous, actually a meal for two!), and the basic burger & fries. All have been very good & plentiful. The service is friendly & efficient. The ambience is pleasant for individuals and groups, both small and large. There is a spacious outdoor dining/beer garden that is very pleasant during the warm seasons. The only drawback is a location that is a bit difficult to find if you are not familiar with Davis. But once you've found it, you'll find it again!
Good Davis Stop: Other attractions in Davis have kept me going back to Sudwerk's, however I have been meaning to make it back there (its not in a convient location off 80 as some other places like redrum burger) That being said I should make another pilgrimge back. They have excellent beer and I nice outdoor garden. Try the Radler which is half lemonade half hefeweizen. Be sure to get the liter steins, which you can't find too often in american brew pubs. The food aint bad either, and I recall the sausage being quite good. However, those liter beers keep you from remembering the taste of the food. ;-)
Sudwerks: Sudwerks is great. The food is awesome, but the beer is better. UCD kids love their local beer, so it's usually crowded, but for $1 Marzens who cares
